Welcome back to the next installment of Channel Surfing. This week I will be taking a look at Ghost Hunters.
Ghost Hunters airs at 9e/8c Wed nights on SciFi. Ghost Hunters is a reality show currently in season 5. TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) is a group of real life paranormal researchers that the show follows each week as they investigate different supposed haunted places.
The core team consists of Grant Wilson and Jason Hawes, Roto-Rooter plumbers by day, Steve Gonsalves the tech manager, and a rotating cast of investigators. TAPS has sub groups all over the United States and an international team. The main thing to keep in mind when watching the show is that they attempt to debunk the issues rather than just label a place haunted. They will look for everything from gas leaks to banging pipes and really try to come up with legit non-paranormal reasoning first. The group is always introducing new technology to the art of ghost hunting, they use more modern techniques over psychics and other unproven methods.
This season will have the team visiting Florida, Atlanta, and Connecticut (the team is based in the New England area.) One of my favorite episodes was an investigation at the Stanley Hotel, you may remember it if you saw the movie The Shining. While investigating the hotel there was a camera running in the room Jason was staying in as it was a hot spot for paranormal activity. A glass shattered, there was a noisy closet, and very little sleep for Jason. If you get the chance this is a must see episode.
I have followed the series since episode 1 and have never been disappointed. The team has been doing an annual Halloween live episode with special guests the past few years. They have their own website, you can catch them on Myspace, and they make appearances all over the U.S.
TAPS even takes requests to investigate, so if you really think your house is haunted why not give them a shout?
