Fan’s of Demo, the groundbreaking 2004 collaboration between Brian Wood (DMZ) and Becky Cloonan (American Virgin) have plenty to be excited about this month. The vignette driven series returned last week, care of Vertigo. This second volume of the series will only be a six issue run, but Wood is already dropping hints of more to come.
About the Author

Michael Re is a freelance writer of both fiction and non-fiction, and story-telling has long been the proverbial monkey on his back. For the last few years, he’s worked as a critic of comics, film, and television, all the while toiling away at his own creative pursuits in an effort to always put his money where his mouth is. His most noteworthy accomplishments are as a song-writer, having co-written and performed on nearly a dozen records. He also watches entirely too much television, and is very glad for an opportunity to justify doing so.
Michael is also an acting editor at In Genre.
I first read DEMO about a year ago in trade paperback. Hell of an affecting read. Probably because I read all that at once (well, over two or three sittings, but still), the first issue of the new series felt a bit lightweight. But I also figured out the twist almost before page three? Four? As early as you could figure out there WAS a twist. Still looking forward to the next issue, though. Even if Brian Wood winds up dropping the ball, Becky Cloonan’s art is still well worth poring over. The detail, the acting, expressions, layouts — GOD, she’s good.
