Summer Time: A New Beginning

Summer time.  I love this time of year.  It’s one of my favorite seasons.  The sun is shining, blockbuster movies are in the theater and the days are long.  It’s also a great time to be reading comic books.

Within the comic book industry we are constantly exposed to a myriad variety of entertaining and thought provoking stories from the Big Two, all the way down to the smallest of independent publishers.  We are currently being treated to a Brighter Day and seen the return of Marvel’s premier team book the Avengers ushering in a new Heroic Age. The summer is a time of rebirth and growth, a new beginning.

I believe this is a truly great time for the Comic Book Industry, a renaissance even.  The industry is very much like a new born baby, it needs constant attention from those who care for it.  If you truly care for the industry and comic books as an art form and a visual story telling medium then, then stand up and speak out for it.  If you feel that something needs to be fixed, voice your opinion.  If you feel everything is fine the way it is then voice your opinion.  Whatever or however you choose to help, the bottom line is this, just get involved.  Because just as the baby would not exist if not for the people who cared for it, the comic book industry too would not exist if not for the people that cared for it as well.

So, as you sit here reading this and reflecting on what I have said, do not get stuck in looking back, but more over use that to help look forward. Also with the summer comes comic book convention season! Make it a point to get out and attend one of the big ones or even a small local show. It’s all about supporting the industry, meeting your favorite creators and bonding with like minded people who share the same interests. Enjoy!
