Drew Karpyshyn, the video game writer whose resume includes Mass Effect 1 & 2, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Jade Empire, Neverwinter Nights, Baldur’s Gate, as well as several Mass Effect novels and the Star Wars: Darth Bane series, has announced that he is leaving BioWare. He says he left on amicable terms, and he’s going to focus now on more of his non-video-game projects. Having played a large chunk of your games, Mr. Karpyshyn, as well as having read the lion’s share of your books, I can say that we will miss you, and good luck.

Everything I’ve read points to it being him wanting to work on stuff himself and the split, indeed, being amicable.
Personally, I’m excited to see what he comes up with on his own. I really enjoy his work. It’s BioWare’s loss, but with how big that company has become I doubt they’ll even notice.
