Iron Man 3 Cast Takes Shape, Will Film in China

Though Iron Man ended up being the flagship movie of Marvel Studios (to the point where every Marvel movie since then up to the Avengers has emphasized “from the creators of Iron Man”), I feel like Iron Man 2 was diminishing returns and not particularly good (though I might feel better on a re-watch). No one consulted me, but Iron Man 3 is set to begin filming this year and the cast is starting to take shape. Of course, Robert Downey Jr. is returning, as is Don Cheadle and Gwyneth Paltrow. Ben Kingsley is set to appear as an as-yet unknown villain, and Guy Pearce is in talks to play Aldrich Killian, a villain from the “Extremis” comic story arc.  Jon Favreau has left the series, replaced as director by Shane Black, who’s worked with Downey before on the quite good “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.”

Furthermore, a not-insignificant portion of the movie will be filmed in China and incorporate China into the story, as Disney is working to attract Chinese ticket sales.  Could this finally be the year of the Mandarin?  We’ll see…

Benton Sartore has been reading comic books off and on since his age was in single digits, and playing RPGs since college. He enjoys a variety of comic books, TV shows, and movies, and he's a little too proud of his DVD collection. And for some stupid reason, he can't let go of Star Wars, no matter how much dumb stuff the franchise does. Benton is also an acting editor at In Genre.
